Big four
to dominate U.S.Tennis Open say Totesport

The US
Open gets underway at Flushing Meadows next week and the
top four in the mens game are likely to dominate
proceedings come the business end of the tournament.
It has not
been ideal preparations for all the competitors as
Hurricane Irene hit New York and forced everyone to train
indoors, but hopefully the weather should not impact too
much on the final Grand Slam of the season.
The man of
2011 has been Novak Djokovic (5/1 Outright) and he will
be going for his third Grand Slam title of the season. It
has been a phenomenal year so far for the Serbian, with
only two losses all season and a host of titles
including the Australian Open and Wimbledon
ensuring he is world number one.
What could
be worrying, however, is the fact Djokovic admitted
exhaustion was kicking in when he pulled out of the
Cincinnati Masters final against Andy Murray earlier this
month, only his second defeat of the year, and he is
struggling with a shoulder problem.
If that
persists then the duo of Rafael Nadal (7/2 Outright) and
Roger Federer will be looking to get back among the top
prizes. Nadal has been forced to play second fiddle to
Djokovic all year bar his traditional dominance on
the clay courts of Roland Garros but he remains
one of the most dangerous players on the world circuit
and will be one to watch.
Federer
(11/2 Outright) has not won a Grand Slam since the
Australian Open in 2009 but he is a 16-time Grand Slam
champion and could easily turn on the magic once again.
The Swiss star dominated the US Open between 2004 and
2009 and, despite being the elder statesman among the big
names, he remains confident coming into the competition.
Andy
Murray (9/2 Outright) continues to be there or
thereabouts in the Grand Slams but needs to finally win
one to prove he is worthy of being mentioned alongside
Djokovic, Nadal and Federer.
The Scot
looks on form and was impressive winning the Cincinnati
Masters. Many tennis fans reckon the hard courts of
Flushing Meadows represents Murrays best chance of
winning a Grand Slam, but he would require a huge amount
of luck to achieve it.
It is hard
to really look any further down the rankings from those
four to see anyone capable of springing a surprise and
winning the US Open. Mardy Fish (33/1) will be the home
crowds best chance while Jo Wilfried Tsonga (33/1)
has managed to pull off some big results so far this
season.
The likes
of Tomas Berdych (50/1), Gael Monfils (100/1) and Juan
Martin del Potro (16/1) will also be dangerous outsiders
in the draw capable of pulling off a massive shock, but
they would likely have to get by two of the worlds
top four to actually win the tournament and that seems a
distant prospect.
Djokovic,
Nadal, Federer and Murray are therefore likely to take
the semi-final spots and it should boil down to another
shoot-out between the worlds top two in the final
which makes for an exciting prospect.
